Additional Educational Needs (AEN)
Welcome to Scoil Phobail Bhéara, where we pride ourselves in catering for the diverse needs of our community and supporting students with Additional Educational Needs (AEN).
“Additional Educational Needs” refers to all needs – learning, physical, sensory, visual, audio, and language – and how these may impact on the person’s ability to reach their full potential.
The AEN team supporting students consists of:
Marian Lynch (AEN Co-ordinator) - [email protected]
Antoinette O Callaghan (Learning Support Co-ordinator) - [email protected]
Celia Landron (English as an Additional Language Co-ordinator) - [email protected]
Maureen O Sullivan (Level 1 and Level 2 programme Co-ordinator) - [email protected]
Learning support:
The principle aim of Learning Support in Scoil Phobail Bhéara is to provide a positive learning environment, which will foster the academic, social and emotional development of students with learning difficulties and to enable each to realise their individual potential. We use targeted, individualised interventions which cater for the specific needs of the child e.g. literacy, numeracy, social skills or executive functioning.
Special class:
Students who qualify for a place in one of our 3 special classes (2 autism classes and 1 multi-disability classes) can access mainstream subjects at both Junior Cycle and Leaving Certificate level, as well as Junior Cycle Level 1 / Level 2 Learning Programmes. Students can also enjoy a variety of programmes, based on their individual needs, e.g. Social Skills, Life Skills, Cooking, Horticulture and Arts & Crafts.
