Leaving Certificate Engineering is the study of mechanical engineering for students in senior cycle. Students develop the skills and initiative in the planning, development and realization of technological projects in a safe manner. Practical resourcefulness, creativity and design in the planning and development of technological projects are emphasised. There are two main areas of study: workshop processes, and materials and technology.
Engineering affords students the opportunity to develop skills in creativity, problem solving, innovation, research, enterprise, design, manufacture and reflection. ICT is an integral part of this learning environment. The student project provides the medium through which some or all of these skills may be expressed and assessed. 25% (150 marks) of the total marks in Engineering, at this level, are allocated to the production of the student project.
