Past Pupils - Law and French
Danielle Lyne
I studied in sixth year but didn't work as hard as I could have. I got my eighth choice which was World Languages. I didn't really know what I wanted to do in college but once I was offered that course, I knew that definitely wasn't it. I missed the course I wanted which was Law and French as it went up 15 points my year, and then dropped 20 points the year after. I was tempted to repeat but after starting college I couldn't imagine going back to secondary school.
I decided I wanted to do Law, which wasn't even on my CAO in the first place... and as I had the points, UCC let me swap over in the first few weeks. I loved Law but then the summer after first year I got an email to say that I could to swap to Law and French if I wanted to, so I did and now I'm living in the amazing city of Montreal for my exchange year.
I went to so many different clubs and societies in UCC, some I liked and some I didn't but you might as well try everything once. It's so great to get involved, it's an amazing way of meeting new and different people.
As I mentioned earlier I really didn't know what I wanted to do in college, the reason I aimed for Law and French was purely so I could go to Montreal for a year, and luckily it turned out I liked the course too. It can make it really hard to study when you don't feel like you're aiming for anything in particular. However you have so much more choices and opportunities if you study more, and so if you end up in a course you don't like it makes it easier to swap over into something else!
