Past Pupils - Radiography

Hi, my name is Grace O’ Neill and it’s been three years since I did the Leaving Cert in Beara Community School, how time flies! I am now in my fourth and final year of studying radiography in University College Dublin. My course is all about X-ray scanning. I always had an interest in health care and really enjoyed physics, chemistry and biology in school which led me to choose radiography – and I’ve loved every year since! Dublin is very different from home, but like everything, you learn to adapt and get used to the busy lifestyle. UCD campus is great fun – the sports facilities are excellent and there’s always a buzz about the place. There’s loads of societies and sports clubs to join. I’m part of the radiography society which involves organising different social events so people in different years in the course can get to know each other. I can’t believe I’ll be graduating (all going well!) in June. I hope to be working in a hospital very soon after that; Cork or Dublin I hope but not sure which yet! My main bit of advice would be to try your best, it’s only an exam at the end of the day but all the hard work is worth it when you are happy and get the course you want. And above all else make sure to take breaks and personal time- no point burning out before the finish line!
