​Senior Cycle

​Students at Senior Cycle follow a two year programme leading to the Leaving Certificate Examination. Students will study seven subjects to Leaving Certificate. Gaeilge, English, Maths, together with four subjects from the options list below. Click on each subject to see further information. 

The non-examination subjects Religion, Career Guidance and Physical Education are also taken by students (PE is also available as an examination subject). 

We take a student centred approach to subject options with the opportunity being afforded to study an extensive curriculum. Students are advised well in advance of entering Senior Cycle and every opportunity is taken to ensure student preference is met.

All subjects are offered at all levels. The Leaving Certificate grading system is outlined below. Students are afforded every opportunity to meet with the Guidance Counsellor for advice on college courses, application requirements and the career options.

Careers Portal Reach+
School Guidance Programme
​
As part of the Senior Cycle Guidance Programme, students complete a series of online tools (Reach+) to help them explore their strengths, interests, and career options.
  • Interest Profiler: Identifies areas where students are strongest and links these to possible courses and career paths under eight headings: Realist, Naturalistic, Enterprising, Social, Investigative, Administrative, Creative, and Linguistic.
  • Personality Profiler & Exercises: Helps students build a career portfolio, shortlist courses or occupations they are interested in, and reflect on their strengths.
The results can then be cross-checked with subject choices as well as PLC/CAO courses and career options, giving each student a clearer picture of their future pathways.
