Past Pupils - Structural Engineering & Architecture
Séamus Lyons:
I am going into 3rd year Structural Engineering with Architecture in UCD. Although the course was extremely difficult in first year, second year was a breeze. The advice I would give to 6th year students is that if you find your course very hard but you are interested in it, then stick it out.
I am enjoying most parts of my course at present. I didn't know what I wanted to do leaving secondary school and I just took what I was offered, which is the course I am doing now. So I guess I was one of the lucky ones who managed to pick something that they were interested in.
I broke away from the crowd of people in my year who were going to Cork for college. Sometimes I regret this because it's so difficult to get home for a weekend, but most of the time I really enjoy living in Dublin. The nightlife is absolutely brilliant, and the heart of the city is very interesting.
So I would say to anyone in sixth year, that they should just go for it and accept the course they're offered no matter where it is. I have made so many new connections that have made me a better person.
